Andrew's Workshop Schedule

Miami 2017

Join Andrew Petrov in his sixth annual plein-air painting workshop series at the Biscayne Nature Center. Join us March 13-14 or 15-16 for two full days of painting or for all four days. Andrew coaches his painters to see space and form and how light 'colors' the air where form lives. Andrew ponders the nature of the subject, abstractly, topographically, and poetically, believing that one's best work comes from understanding the 'why' as well as the 'how' or 'what'. We will commence each morning at 9 am, then break for lunch, provided on site. After lunch, we will return to work until it is time to leave. Andrew will begin cleaning up around 4 pm. If interested, please contact Theo at the Nature Center to register for your two-day session. Be sure to reserve your place for the second week ahead of time. Spaces will be limited. Cost is $230 for a two day session. $410 for all four days . This is a secure and quiet environment for those who love solitude while working.

Contact Theo at theodoralong@biscaynenaturecenter.org for more information.  Or you can contact me directly.

Provence Schedule 2017

Come be part of the 2017 workshops in Saignon. June 17-24 and July 1-8. My home for eleven years, this medieval/renaissance building is the hub of our activity.  Our hostess, Juli James, will welcome us and feed us daily with her beautiful array of delicious seasonal meals.  From poppies to sunflowers and, of course, lavender fields. In mid-May, fields of poppies explode with hills as a backdrop. As well, we will paint village scenes and learn my extremely elegant method for 'drawing in space'.

We will start our day with breakfast chez Juli and then set out to paint until lunchtime.  Then, after a brief siesta, we head back out for our evening session.  After cleaning up, we'll enjoy dinner back at La Maison des Arts et Lettres as we relax and reflect upon each new discovery.

The all-inclusive cost for a seven-day workshop, including two sessions per day, most meals, transport, and lodging is $2500, per person, double occupancy.  Spaces are limited.  This is a perfect trip to do as a couple.  Non-painting guests will have an itinerary suited to their own tastes.  Please ask about our non-painting-guest itineraries.

The World Is Our Atelier

For me, the object of learning a manual craft is to be able to know about and to do this craft oneself. I focus my training program on developing an artist's skill, while also remaining sensitive to the importance of one's poetic sense. I prefer to train individuals to become artists. I find this method useful to hobbyists as well, since their objective is to still do the craft well, even if their intentions are not professionally motivated.

A painter must paint. However, the transferance of techniques, exchange of ideas, and inspiration to others who wish to paint represents as much of a vital role to the artist as does the making of art. As a teacher, I facilitate in others the discovery of the primordial act of image making.
